Downtown Albany Welcomes Creperie to Clinton Square
ALBANY>> The Downtown Albany Business Improvement District (BID) announces the grand opening celebration of The French Press Café & Creperie at 5 Clinton Square on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 10:30 AM. Albany Mayor Kathy M. Sheehan, Downtown Albany BID executive director Georgette Steffens, and owner Morgan Pellitteri are expected to speak. The media and public are invited to attend the event which will include crepe tastings.
“As more residents, employees, and businesses come to Albany’s Downtown, it’s important that we expand the culinary choices available,” says Mayor Sheehan. “In opening The French Press Café & Creperie, Morgan Pellitteri brings a delicious new addition to this area.”
Pellitteri’s professional experience bridges a wide spectrum from working in restaurants to advertising and media buying, including management roles, though this marks his first foray into owning his own business. The idea to open came after a literal dream in which he was serving French presses; four months later, The French Press Café & Creperie opened.
Pellitteri’s wife Shana, who is a French teacher, urged him to meet with an existing cafe owner to discuss the details of operating a business. The French Press Cafe & Creperie might have taken longer to realize were it not for that person, Downtown restaurant owner Katrin Haldeman, of Dali Mamma, alerting him that the space which formerly housed Coffeetime @ Hellasbakery would soon be available. Included was all of the equipment needed for a coffee shop and from there, Pellitteri says, it all just came together. The transition meant the space was only closed for a week before re-emerging as the creperie.
“Situated within walking distance of the Capital Region’s premier entertainment venues, not to mention the current and future residences in Downtown, The French Press Café & Creperie is in a great location to tap into foot and vehicle traffic,” says Steffens. “The opening of this creperie further proves that Downtown offers everything you need or want.”
With crepes, baked goods, homemade soup, and coffee among the menu items, Pellitteri is working to satisfy those who need a quick breakfast, lunch or snack. Savory and sweet crepe options are available, or you can build your own with ingredients such nutella, berries, chicken and turkey. So far, he says, the most popular crepe is Tuscan Summer, made with pesto, fresh mozzarella and oven roasted chicken.
“I feel very lucky that my dream came to fruition so quickly,“ Pellitteri says. “I look around the café and see it as a great opportunity for myself and the community. I have one approach to things: If it’s not good enough for me and my family, it’s not good enough for you. It’s the hard way, but it’s satisfying, and it’s what I want our customers to expect from us.”
The French Press Café & Creperie is located at 5 Clinton Square in downtown Albany. Hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM Monday to Friday and 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM Saturday. Also open late for special events.
