Sunmark Federal Credit Union’s Lisa Totaro honored and headed to Ireland

Lisa Totaro named one of six young professionals
from around the world to win scholarship to attend
2016 World Credit Union Conference in Belfast, Ireland

(Latham, N.Y.) Lisa Totaro, Sunmark Federal Credit Union’s marketing manager, received one of only six scholarships that were awarded, from a field of young credit union professionals from around the world, for an all-expense paid trip to the 2016 World Credit Union Conference in Ireland.

The World Council Young Credit Union People (WYCUP) scholarships, normally awarded to five nominees, were awarded to six candidates – two from the United States, two from Brazil, one from Canada and one from Jamaica -- who are 35 or younger, have made significant contributions to their credit union system and have the potential to make a global credit union impact.

In addition to her work at Sunmark, Totaro serves as the president of the Capital Chapter of Credit Unions and as the vice chair of the Young Professionals Committee for CUNA (Credit Union National Association. In 2013, Totaro was named a Credit Union Rock Star by Credit Union Magazine. Also, she was named 2013 Outstanding Young Professional by NYCUA (New York Credit Union Association) and Trailblazer-40Below by the Credit Union Times. In 2011, Totaro was selected as a national participant for the Cooperative Trust’s “Crash the GAC” program. In 2012, she graduated from the National Credit Union Foundation Credit Union Development Educator (CUDE) program.  She also is a member of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Marketing & Business Development Council, The Cooperative Trust and the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber’s Women’s Business Council. 

Totaro earned her Bachelor of Arts, American Studies at University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va. Totaro and her husband reside in Scotia.

WYCUP provides international networking and educational events for young credit union leaders at the World Credit Union, an annual event designed to promote and engage the next generation of credit union leaders in the international credit union movement.
