Lord & Taylor, Peebles to open Sept. 18
Two department stores are opening in the Capital Region next week.
In fact, both are opening next Thursday, Sept 18. Shoppers will have to choose which to visit first.
Reopening in Albany’s Crossgates Mall after several years since closing there is Lord & Taylor. Founded in 1826, the store that prides itself on being part of New York fashion, will open again upstate, at the largest mall in the area. Under new management, this new Lord & Taylor will be the only one opening its doors in the country in 2014.
A ribbon cutting event is scheduled for 9 :30 a.m. on Sept. 18, and doors will open to the public at 10 a.m.
Opening its second Capital Region location next week is Peebles Department Store. At 8:45 a.m. on Sept. 18 the new Peebles in a 20,000-square foot space in Columbia Plaza at 501 Columbia Turnpike in East Greenbush will hold it’s grand opening ceremony, followed by business hours starting at 9 a.m. With a preceding location opened last November on Hoosick Street in Troy, this is the second Rensselaer County store.
The parent company, Stage Stores, has been operating since the 1800s. In recent years it’s focused on expanding in the Northeast. “This is one of the prime areas that were continuing to to grow,” said district manager Brian Stewart. “It’s just part of our ever-growing expansion to this area.” The East Greenbush store will be the fourth to open in the district in the past three years.
The new Peebles will have a full line of cosmetics, including Estee Lauder and Clinique, and misses, plus size, petites, boys, men, young men's, shoes, accessories, jewelry and toys and home departments.
Regular store hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays. The phone number is 477-5731.
