What’s going on at the mall
Wilton Mall is a busy
place these days. Stores are moving, the theater is going up and the lunch crowd
is now significant, thanks to Healthy Living Market and Café.
Dick’s Sporting Goods is undergoing renovations,
according to Leah Palmer, area senior marketing manager for the Wilton Mall. Lily
David Fine Jewelry is moving to a larger space within the mall and doing refurbishment.
Super Bounce, run by owner Roger Allan, has moved from the former New York
& Company to the former H&M space. Allan promises an added attraction and
vending machines, and notes that restrooms are nearby.
“We’re constantly looking for new tenants and figuring
out how to best utilize our space,” Palmer said.
Regal Cinemas closed in February, and one day later,
Bow Tie Cinemas announced plans to build a new eight-screen theater in Wilton
Mall. The mall’s theater is more than two decades old, and Bow Tie is tearing
it down completely to build a state-of-the-art facility featuring one
large-format screen, Bow Tie Cinemas Chief Operating Officer Joe Masher has said.
Work began in March, and the company expects to open the new theater in the
fall.
“So many positive things are coming up,” Palmer
said. “We’re super-excited.”
People working out at Planet Fitness and shopping at
Healthy Living often spend lunchtime in the mall, and this crowd may spend
money more freely.
“These businesses are drawing a more diverse, higher-powered
clientele. It’s phenomenal,” she said.
On the other client hand, kids are always welcome in
the mall, especially during the Kids’ Club monthly meetings. Activities, crafts
and games are arranged around a theme such as Insects, and are planned to be
both educational and fun. The next club meeting is on Big Cats, July 20 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the food
court. See http://www.mallkidsclub.com/wiltonmall/bigcats2013.
