Home Depot and VETHELP: Vote for vets’ home
Home Depot associates give back by volunteering through
Team Depot. Help them decide which veterans' nonprofit partner will receive
funding for an upcoming project. Vote once a day at https://apps.facebook.com/apronsinaction/.
Saratoga County Rural Preservation Co.’s Veterans Housing,
Employment and Lifeskills Programs (VETHELP) has been selected to participate
in the Home Depot Facebook contest in April to win $25,000 and possibly
$250,000 to fund a special project.
VETHELP provides a transitional home for homeless
female veterans striving to regain independence. The program helps veterans secure
temporary and permanent housing, viable employment and access to health care,
and addresses other issues facing these veterans in their journey through life.
The program plans to use the $25,000 to provide
additional living space in the home by demolishing unusable space and
rebuilding to promote healthy living for the female veterans. Partnering with
Team Depot and volunteers from Rebuilding
Together Saratoga
County to complete the project, VETHELP
expects the new addition to its facility will include a study/office for
veterans actively seeking employment and completing school work. The program
also plans to incorporate an exercise room that will promote overall wellness, as
well as an outdoor gardening area to offer a positive and creative outlet. The
additional space will be converted into a storage area for veterans’ accumulated
household belongings in preparation of their transition back into the community
and independent living. VETHELP will also paint, install sheetrock and
insulation, and provide landscaping.
