Shaker Pointe at Carondelet earns LEED Certification for new residence building Spirit Tree

With this certification, the senior living community has earned green building approval on all of its structures

LATHAM>> Shaker Pointe at Carondelet, a nonprofit independent senior living community, announces today its 56-apartment, 75,000-square-foot building, Spirit Tree, has earned platinum Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. With this recognition, every structure in Shaker Pointe’s community has reached gold or platinum certification, and remains the only community in the Capital Region with this
distinction.

“With each step of building Shaker Pointe, it was important to us that we remain environmentally friendly,” said Sister Kay Ryan, executive team member at Shaker Pointe. “It’s an integral part of our mission at the community.”

Sister Lauren Vandermark, executive team member at Shaker Pointe, added, “The recognition from the U.S. Green Building Council is an honor, and we’re proud that our architecture and construction partners went above and beyond to meet these standards.”

LEED certification for Shaker Pointe required meticulous attention to detail to ensure that each material for the buildings and residences were eco-friendly.

Inspections to ensure standards are met for the certification are performed throughout construction and post-completion. Although extra steps are required, this commitment to green construction reduces negative environmental impacts and improves the health and well being of all occupants.

LeCesse Construction, a firm based in West Henrietta, N.Y., built the independent living community over the course of five years. The final installment is the Spirit Tree apartment building, which was unveiled in June of this year. Spirit Tree is connected to The Pointe, the community center that hosts a wide variety of amenities, such as a theater and fitness center, making access to activities and
conveniences easier for residents. Within each apartment are Energy Star-rated appliances, granite kitchen countertops, individual heating and air conditioning units, washer and dryer units, and more.
