Happy Holidays!

What a start to this season!

We continued the second phase of our "Shop. Dine. Explore. Downtown Troy" campaign and jump started the holiday season with a bang (both literally and in the press).

Our 4th Annual Dinner and Sammy Awards this past week was also a booming success, and we are just starting to get our thank-yous together--there are so many amazing supporters of Troy.

The kissing balls are up, the wreaths are out--let's all get together this Sunday (Dec. 6) and celebrate our Troy Victorian Stroll in full force. 'Tis the season!

Thank you for supporting downtown Troy!

Sincerely,

The Downtown Troy BID staff

business development
The Downtown Troy BID is excited to welcome the
following new businesses to
our District:

Northwestern Mutual Grand Opening
2 Third Street
We are so excited to welcome the Northwestern Mutual team to The Downtown Troy BID. On November 24, Northwestern officially opened the doors to their offices in the Frear Building.  Northwestern brings a team of 26 employees to downtown, with the plans of recruiting 12 new employees in 2016. We are so excited to welcome all of the staff to downtown and we think they will be a great addition to downtown Troy.

The Holiday Shopping Season in Downtown Troy
We had another amazing kickoff to our holiday season last month. It all started on Tuesday the 24th, with the help of many downtown business owners, and volunteers we screen printed 288 EnjoyTroy bags that were then handed out on #smallbusinesssaturday to shoppers. The bags were filled with participating retailer's specials, and a flyer for #givingtuesday. Next on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, we set off a cannon in Monument Square to symbolize the start holiday shopping season. On Thanksgiving our billboards (seen below) went up on I-787 for all travelers to see! We continue to encourage consumers to Shop.Dine.Explore. Downtown Troy, and we hope you do too!

The Wizard of Oz
Sage College
65 1st Street
The Theatre Institute at Sage announces their production of The Wizard of Oz, directed by Sean Patrick Fagan, with music direction by Alex Sovronsky. It is based on L. Frank Baum's novel and the 1939 film. This musical adaption of The Wizard of Oz was originally produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company in London in 1987 with music by Harold Arlen and lyrics by E.Y. Harburg. The score is full of tunes from the timeless film such as "We're Off To See the Wizard," If I Only Had A Brain," "The Merry Old Land of Oz," and - of course - "Somewhere Over The Rainbow." Click Here for tickets and show dates!

Troy Savings Bank Music Hall
30 Second Street

Thursday, December 10th - 8:00pm - Punch Brothers
Regularly at the top of Billboard's Bluegrass chart, Punch Brothers is one of the Hall's must-see concerts! They are touring to support their latest album, the T Bone Burnett-produced The Phosphorescent Blues, which addresses with straight-up poignancy and subversive humor the power and the pitfalls of our super-connected era. Opening for them is special guest, composer/singer songwriter Gabriel Kahane.
Sunday, December 13th - 3:00pm - The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchstra
is the most sought after big band in the world today.  Bandleader Glenn Miller disappeared over the English Channel on a flight from London to Paris on December 15, 1944, at the height of his popularity.  Yet, over fifty-five years since the public first embraced the successful Glenn Miller Sound, both the legend and the music live on. With its unique, jazzy sound, it is considered one of the greatest bands of all time.
Wednesday, December 16th - 8:00pm - Squeeze Acoustic
For the first time in the US in almost 20 years, Squeeze's Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook will be heading out on the road as a duo with 'The At Odds Couple' tour that will see them present their songs and story in a unique way.  This follows on from the hugely successful UK tour of the same show at the end of last year.

River Street
So far this year alone, six new business have made their homes on River Street. Troy Grooming Co, Crooked Canvas, Sentinel Butchery, Two Ring Circus, Lux Comfort and Health, and Karma Hair Salon have all opened their doors on River Street this year. We are ecstatic that so many entrepreneurs from all over are choosing Troy as their home. For so many of these business owners, owning a place of their own has been a dream for so long, and we are so thankful that they have chosen Troy to make that dream come true. We hope that the growth on River Street so far this year continues for many years to come.
