The Merry Monk will open on Henry Street
The space
left empty at 84 Henry St. by Tiznow’s September departure will now be filled by the Merry Monk
restaurant and bar. The menu offers authentic Belgian cuisine, from wild boar ribs to mussels and frites.
The Belgian beer includes Monk’s Stout, McChouffe,
and Biere du Soleil.
Saratoga Springs is the second location for the Merry Monk’s Albany-based owners, Jeremy
O’Brien and Joe Gorman, who have
been operating on 90 North Pearl St. for nearly a year. There, Chef Daniel
Miller blends traditional Belgian cuisine with American fare.
The new
Merry Monk will be adjacent to the Henry Street Taproom, which opened last
month in Virgil’s former space. The taproom sells American boutique beer, and its menu is international as
well as American, so the two restaurants may garner different tavern-goers.
The Merry
Monk’s opening date depends of the granting of a liquor license, but could take
place by the end of the year.
