We're back (sort of) with some news about Downstreet Marketplace

First, apologies for the way-too-long hiatus! As you may already know Mareesa Nicosia, business and education reporter extraordinaire, left the Saratogian for another opportunity more than a month ago. Then, a week ago, our city reporter, Patrick Donges, also left. It's getting a little lonely in this newsroom. We've got one new reporter (who will graduate from Skidmore soon) and we're on the hunt for another. In the meantime, we're trying to keep our heads above water stay on top of everything... but this blog has been sadly neglected. So, I'll do my best to give you some local biz news.

Here's what I've got...
Downstreet Marketplace (you know, the two-level indoor shopping spot with entrances on Broadway and on Maple Ave.) has a new name: Saratoga Marketplace!

To go with their new name, they've got some new tenants: McGillycuddy's Naturals and The Body Lounge.
Some of your old favorites are still there including Betty's Cupcakes, Pangea, Lucia (a clothing boutique) and the newly-revamped Aggie Mullaney's (formerly just Aggie's).

Tomorrow (Saturday) is the perfect day to check out the changes at Saratoga Marketplace. From 3 to 5 p.m. a Skidmore a cappella group -- the Bandersnatchers -- will perform in the marketplace. This is part of the marketplace's Saturday Afternoon Music Series. On Saturday, April 30 that series will feature An Eclectic Afternoon of Strings — Cello and Guitar Music from Baroque to Blues, from 3 to 5 p.m. Will Hayes, a cellist originally from New York City, has performed in many venues in the Capital District, including the Saratoga City Center, Albany Institute of History and Art and, most recently, at the new Figure 10 Jazz Club in Albany. He is associated with the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra and is principal cellist with the University of Albany Symphony Orchestra.

Another feature coming soon to the marketplace is wifi.

Thank you for your patience while we try to keep this blog updated ... I promise we'll have more posts (and a new biz reporter) soon!
