Four Seasons Natural Foods new bag share program

BAG SHARE:  NEW PROJECT AT FOUR SEASONS NATURAL FOODS

Saratoga Springs - Bring Your Own Bag Saratoga (BYOBag), a project of Sustainable Saratoga, begins a partnership with Four Seasons Natural Foods this month.  “Bag Share” will offer reusable bags in the grocery store for shoppers who don’t have their own.  The bags can be taken home and then returned to the store on the next shopping trip.

BYOBag and Rich Frank, owner of Four Seasons, share a concern about the amount of plastic trash being generated by human activity.  With its ability to last for many hundreds of years and its toxic nature, plastic has become a serious problem that includes negative consequences for the health of humans and sea life.  Replacing single-use plastic shopping bags is a relatively easy way to prevent a significant amount of plastic trash from entering the environment.  In Saratoga Springs alone, shoppers use an estimated 10 million plastic bags a year.

The reusable bags for this project will be provided in part with excess bags donated by community members.  Anyone wishing to reduce the number of bags accumulating in their homes and cars can bring clean, lightly used bags to the Four Seasons store at 120 Henry Street for our “Bag Swap”  Saturday, June 20, from 10 am- 2 pm.  A donation of one or more bags earns the donor one BYOBag “Spirit of Life” canvas bag in exchange.

Also featured at the Bag Swap will be a visit from the Glens Falls "Bag Monster", a living, breathing demonstration of the 500 bags many people use in one year.
