Bioconnex to Sponsor the Capital Region Cancer Research New Frontiers Symposium:
New Strategies and Technologies in Cancer Research

Albany, NY – Bioconnex, an affiliate of the Center for Economic Growth, in partnership with the Capital Region Cancer Research group (CRCR), will sponsor a one-day symposium as part of their CRCR New Frontiers Series, entitled “New Strategies and Technologies in Cancer Research” on November 14, 2014 at the Hilton Garden Inn Albany Medical Center. This is the fifth such Cancer Symposium in this series, previously held in 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2012. The symposium, organized by CRCR, is intended to bring together investigators in New York’s Capital Region who work on various aspects of cancer.

The day-long symposium will feature seminars by local cancer researchers as well as two key-note speakers: Tamara Minko, Ph.D., from Rutgers University, and Jeffrey Ross, M.D., from Albany Medical Center. The symposium will include basic research scientists, clinical research scientists, student and post-doctoral trainees, and industry scientists. A poster session will also be held with prizes awarded and top abstracts selected for oral presentation.

“The development and growth of new technologies in the cancer research field has led to unprecedented advances in our understanding of cancer, in turn providing new methods of cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Powerful and exciting technologies such as nanotechnology, next generation sequencing, multiplex molecular analysis, structural interacting RNAs, and non-invasive imaging to be presented during this symposium will play a major role in contributing to the ultimate goal of the CRCR and our attending community organizations - the cure of cancer,” said Dana R. Crawford, Ph.D., Associate Professor at Albany Medical College and Chair of the CRCR.

CRCR is an inter-institutional organization created to promote research interactions among Albany area researchers, toward the ultimate goal of contributing to the cure of cancer. CRCR member organizations include Wadsworth Center, SUNY-Albany, General Electric (GE), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), SUNY Polytechnic Institute, Taconic Biosciences, Inc., the Albany College of Pharmacy (ACP), Albany Molecular Research Inc. (AMRI), the Stratton VA Medical Center, and Albany Medical Center (AMC).

“Bioconnex is pleased to work closely with Dr. Crawford and the CRCR on this program that aligns with the network’s dedication to strengthen Tech Valley’s biotechnology community by connecting professionals from research organizations, educational institutions and companies,” stated Todd Little, President of Taconic and Chair of Bioconnex.

Registration is now open and more information on the event can be found at www.bioconnex.org.
