NYISO Offers Market Training
Market Operations Course Scheduled in November
Rensselaer, N.Y.—The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) is offering an opportunity for individuals to learn more about New York’s competitive wholesale electricity markets and power system operations.
On November 4-7, the NYISO will offer an in-depth, three and one-half day Market Orientation Course, geared toward active or prospective participants in New York’s wholesale electricity markets. Attendees receive instruction in the purchase and sale of energy, capacity and related market products.
Since the NYISO began operating New York’s electricity markets in late 1999, more than 5,000 visitors have toured the NYISO power control center to learn about NYISO grid operations, wholesale electricity markets and power system planning. These visitors represent hundreds of companies and governments, including approximately 1,500 individuals from 86 nations.
In the most recent State of the Market Report, the NYISO’s independent market monitor, Potomac Economics, noted, “The NYISO markets are at the forefront of market design and have been a model for market development in a number of areas.”
“The NYISO’s markets are always evolving,” said NYISO President and CEO Stephen G. Whitley. “Working in collaboration with market participants, stakeholders, regulators and policymakers, we focus on enhancing market efficiency, optimizing grid operations, implementing comprehensive system planning and integrating technological advances to provide consumers the benefits of competitive wholesale electricity markets.”
The registration fee for the Market Orientation Course is $1,625, with a government rate of $750. The fee covers the cost of the training sessions, breakfast, lunch and afternoon breaks. Attendees have the option to purchase preprinted materials. A link with the materials also will be sent prior to the course if the attendee wishes to print them ahead of time. The registration deadline for the Market Orientation Course is Thursday, October 23. To register for classes or view previous course materials, visit the Market Training Course Catalog available on the NYISO website (www.nyiso.com).
